Mrs, Shats Math Enrichment
We worked on addition and subtraction word problems and started telling time to the hour.
Ms Regina Math, SS and Geography
MathWe are doing great with time! So far we can tell time to o'clock (:00), thirty minutes (:30), and fifteen minutes (:15). We can write it and read it. We made paper plate clocks that we love to practice with as well as making the time with our bodies. Miss Regina is really proud of us and loves how much progress we're making!
Social Studies
We had a mini review of our community helpers and drew pictures of which ones we wanted to be when we grew up! Many of us chose policemen and teachers!
Geography
We talked all about Italy and made a pop up of the leaning tower of pisa for our geography book. We love hands on activities and can't wait for our book to finally be complete!
Ms Syetta ELA and Science
This week we continued learning all about the Bossy E. We took turns dressing up as the Bossy E and telling the vowels to say their name. We learned all about how when we add an E to CVC words we get a new word. We also made magic Bossy E wands and practiced reading Bossy E words. We read the third story in our third reader and we began reading and answering questions in a first grade comprehension book. We have been working hard on writing detailed sentences. We did an amazing job at describing an animal and having our classmates guess the animal based on our descriptions. We realized the better we described our animals the easier it was to guess the animal.
This week in Science we learned all about what animals need to live. We learned that animals need food, water, air, and shelter and we created little books to show what animals need to live.
Mrs Ivry Judaic Studies
We finally completed our personalised and interactive Haggadah that we hope to use for the Pessach Seder. Like I told the students, these books are very special and contain many memories and reminders of what was learned and done in class. When your child brings home the haggadah on Monday, please treat it with respect and go over it, pointing at the pictures and little props you will find along the way. Your child will share many pertinent informations about the Holiday's customs, practices and History. I hope you enjoy it and get much Nachat from your child as he/she sings the Mah Nishtanah at your Pessach table.
We will have a model Seder on Monday Be"H
A special Pessach Mitzvah note will be sent home as well on Monday to be filled out after the Holiday nad returned to school on April 13th .
Have a Shabbat Shalom and a Kosher and Happy Pessach!

We are so proud ! Can you believe we finished our social studies book ? We enjoyed it so much . We learned from the beginning of America through the pilgrims pioneers and to the present day how proud we are to be American . This week we wrote a wonderful composition about when I was sad . We first wrote what caused us to be sad , then told how we felt , and finally how we solved the problem . In our reader , we read an adorable story called mice and beans . It wasn't a story with a moral , it was a mystery . Who kept taking the mousetraps ? The mice of course .

Like I told the students, these books are very special and contain many memories and reminders of what was learned and done in class. THe first grade Haggadah also includes a mini booklet with Hebrew praises to Hashem that are part of the Seder. Please do not through these in recycling or any trash. If you wish to discard the haggadah (Although I hope you can save it for future, it is a great souvenir and the kids worked hard on it), please return it to school after the Holiday, I will take care of it. SECOND GRADE
Ms. May ELA, SS and Geography
This week in ELA the students finished their 5th trade book, A Long Way to a New Land and worked with an array of reading strategies to ensure their reading comprehension skills. I re-tested the students’ reading levels for fluency and I am happy to report that most of the 2nd graders have gone up an entire reading level since they were last tested in November! We focused on pronouns and the parts of speech, so that we will be able to construct well- written sentences. We had our Spelling/Vocabulary test on Monday. The students will begin taking other types of tests such as reading comprehension tests, and tests to measure their ability to recall information and retain material learned after the Passover break. I will also be introducing to them a new approach to a the infamous book report, the Book Talk which will give our auditory and verbal learners a chance to shine, and give our savvy writers the opportunity to improve on their verbal expression and communicative skills!
SS
Current Events is back in effect and the 2nd graders are learning how to pick the best article for themselves—an article that they can read without too much difficulty and can understand with ease so that they can share their article with their classmates. The goal is not for the students to read from the article, or to recite the article verbatim; but for them to be able to absorb what they read and comfortably present it to the class.
Geography
The 2nd graders have finished their neighborhood maps and it is hanging on our bulletin board for all to see. Make sure to take a sneak peek during p/t conference. We are now beginning our unit on the 50 States of America. On Thursday, the class was given a challenge to see who could name the most states and the winner will receive two stars to add to their in- class Student of the Month contest! To be announced in the next newsletter!
