Mrs. Perles-ELA & SS
We had such a great week back from our Pesach vacation. We loved telling about where we went and what we did and then we got back to our work. We read a beautiful story called Farfilina and Marcel. It is a great story about true friendship. We then spoke about what is a real friend and how we should treat him or her.
We started writing our very own hard covered real book. It's going to be amazing! We just wrote page 1. We are doing an awesome job.
Besides finishing up our workbooks, we started a fun workbook called Reading Comprehension. What is different about this book is that it makes reading lots of fun.
Lastly, we had a ball making a special something for someone special to us.
Second Grade:
Mrs. Spiegel-Judaic Studies
It was wonderful coming back to school this week and being greeted by all the smiling faces happy to be back.I hope you all had an inspiring and happy Passover and that your child enjoyed using his/her Haggdah at the Seder. We spent a lot of time on reading practice this week.Through games and contests the children practiced their Hebrew reading skills. We learned new Vocab.words and discussed Sifrat Haomer (the period between Passover and Shavout)We know this is a perfect time to work in character building traits and we will be studying a different trait weekly. This week we read Chapter 1 in Ethics of our Fathers also called Pirkei Avot. We discussed the importance of judging people favorably. We should always try to give people the benefit of the doubt.Have a great Shabbat.

The third grade had a very big Ivrit review this week. The students did many Hebrew assignments where they were challenged to figure out the English translation to Hebrew sentences. The students also did various Hebrew writing exercises and earned tickets and marbles for their effort and accuracy. This week the third grade had a long class discussion about the very important mitzvah of "Viahavta Lareacha Kamocha"(Loving one's friend like yourself). The students learned the story of the great Rabbi Akivah who's students were punished because they lacked the sensitivity and respect for each other that Hashem expected them to have. Everyone decided to work on their middot (character traits) to be nicer to each other and treat everyone the way they would like to be treated.
Mrs. Shats-Math
This week we started a unit on graphs. We answered questions based on the graph information and we created our own graphs.

Fourth Grade:
Mrs. K.-Judaic Studies
The 4th grade finished unit 7 in Ivrit and started learning unit 8. The students read a story in Hebrew and answered many questions. We learned about Rabbi Akiva and his students who Hashem punished because they weren't careful with the important mitzvah of "viahavta lareacha kamocha", loving one's friend like yourself. We had a class discussion on how we can improve our relationships with people. The students shared personal stories about how they felt when they were mistreated by their friends and what they learned from their experience. As a united class, the fourth graders vowed to work on themselves to treat each other with respect and dignity.
Mrs. Uzhansky-Math
Fourth grade completed their unit on volume. We have been reviewing more challenging volume problems.
Mr. I.-Science
Firstly, I love the progress that the fourth grade has made. instead of testing them on the human body they were asked to write a paper on it that will count as a test. The reason for this assignment was that next year, in fifth grade, these same students will have to write a paper accompanying their projects for science fair. This will serve as great practice in acquiring those skills and uncovering the responsibility it actually takes. We started our unit on energy today and the students loved it. We will continue next week.
Mr. I.-SS
We reviewed American expansion and on 5/4, we had a special lesson on the Holocaust. This needless to say, was a very powerful half hour but I also tried to make it as informative as possible because I want the students to understand from a young age the struggles that their ancestors and fellow peoples faced. The first thing I taught these children was "if you don't know history you are bound to repeat it". Therefore, to learn this at a young age and gain knowledge is crucial to moral development to say the least.
Fifth Grade:
Ms. Regina-ELA
This week, we practiced reading and understanding sonnets. We learned two types: Petrarch and Shakespearean. We tried writing our own sonnets and we're able to rewrite Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare in our own words. We are preparing for our practice at the Author's Tea in June.
Mrs. Uzhansky-Math
Fifth grade completed their unit on rate. We have been reviewing more challenging word problems on rate.
Mr. I.-Science
We have finally completed the nervous system and began review. students made their own review sheets and we will play Jeopardy to strengthen their knowledge. e will begin the endocrine system next followed by our unit on Astronomy. Test to come 5/9.
Mr. I.-SS
We finally concluded with ancient Egypt! We will review next week and we will review for a test. The students really enjoyed this chapter as most do. I remember this was one of my favorite topics in 6th grade and actually the start of me wanting to teach SS.
SHABBAT SHALOM!!
