Mrs, Shats Math Enrichment
We reviewed ordinal numbers and completed addition equations using number bonds.
Ms Regina Math, SS and Geography
We have been practicing writing word problems and understanding the wording in some question to decide if it is addition or subtraction. We have also been drawing numbers in hundreds, tens, and ones, as well as identifying them.
Ms Syetta ELA and Science
This week we continued to learn all about how to read words with er at the end and how to spell words by adding er to the end of a word. We learned how to read and spell words with the vowel digraph ee and ea. We read all about firefighters, which was our fifth story in our 5th first grade reader. We continued to learn about visualization by drawing and writing about our visualizations. We also continued to write our How-To.
In Science we learned all about butterflies. We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and how butterflies change. We also learned that butterflies have bright colors to keep them safe and warn predators not to eat them. We are so excited that our caterpillars finally arrived! We can't wait to watch them go through their life cycle!

This week, we spent time learning about the 10 commandments. We also worked on Kibbud Av Viem book. W can't wait to bring it home. On Friday we made a special Shabbat/Shevuot treat; an edible Har Sanai.

Mrs. Perles ELA
It was another busy week finishing up our workbooks and writing our end of the year book. We read an interesting story about the captain of the Staten Island ferry. We learned about all of his responsibilities making sure people get safely to Manhattan and home again. We worked on our state workbook. Now we are practicing for the Spelling Bee.
Mrs. Shats Math Enrichment
Started a unit on money. Kids can identify coins and dollar bills. Add on different coins to find the sum. We also worked on word problems with adding and subtracting money.

This week we reviewed what we learned about the rainforest, desert, Arctic, and the ocean.
Mrs Ivry Judaic
First grade passed their test with flying colors and are so happy to start the green reader and the new easy vowel; cheereek.

In ELA class we began getting to know who’s who in our 6th trade book, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, and read the first three chapters. As usual, we focused on answering questions which test our various reading skills. Our spelling/vocabulary words have been pulled from our readings. We continue to learn about Personification and how it plays an integral part in Charlotte’s Web.
In SS, we are learning about our 5th historian, George Washington. We continue to write and present our current event articles. We also learned about the history of Israel’s water irrigation, among other facets of water by way of SIHA’s Discovery Day!
In Geography we finally finished our unit on Staten Island. We have begun to learn about the 7 continents.

We had a very exciting week from reading and answering questions about Shavout in hebrew to Discovery Day to icing and decorating cupcakes that looked like Har Sinai on Friday.Your child knows all about the giving of the Torah and why we celebrate this weekend

Mrs. Khukhashvili Judaic & Hebrew Studies
The 3rd graders are getting ready for their Ivrit Final (May 28). This week we made review sheets and everyone was given a sheet protectors in order to keep them in tact. Shavuot is here! We learned the meaning behind this wonderful and joyous holiday as well as some of the many customs and traditions that pertain to it.

This week we learned all about how animals and insects have adaptions to help them protect themselves from predators. We learned that an animal or an insect can protect itself from predators by using camouflage, mimicry, or protective resemblance. They can also have armor on their body, they can play dead, or they can have a weapon, such as claws. We also learned what adaptations animals have to protect themselves from the different seasons.

This week we reviewed genre and we analyzed a variety of traditional literature (eg: fables, folktales and myths). In Social Studies, we discovered all of the contributions that Thomas Jefferson, our third president, made to our country.
Ms May Geography
We are learning about our unit on the 7 Continents on various levels. We are learning about the continents of North America, South America and Asia in 4th grade, with a focus on their countries.

Mrs. Khukhashvili Judaic & Hebrew Studies
The fourth graders worked very hard on memorizing their parts for the chumash mesiba. They are looking forward to performing in front of their parents, teachers, and friends. Shavuot is here! We learned the meaning behind this wonderful and joyous holiday as well as some of the many customs and traditions that pertain to it.

This week the fourth graders learned how to find the area and perimeter of rectangles, squares, and composite figures. Students used formulas for area and perimeter to find the length of the side of a rectangle when given its area or perimeter. In addition, students also learned how to find the area of a path around rectilinear figures.

This week, besides our impromptu song-singing session, we continued to read and discuss Stargirl. We reviewed several skills: causes and effect, predictions, and inferences. In reading Stargirl, we have also examined several types of figurative language: similes, metaphors, personification and allusions. In Social Studies, we continued with our chronological discovery of US History and we learned about the expansion of our country after it was established. Next, we will be examining the Industrial Revolution
