This week kindergarten had two parties! We celebrated the 100th day of school on Monday and Dr.Seuss's birthday (National Read Across America Day) on Wednesday. We did many fun activities to celebrate both days.
Ms. Syetta-ELA
We read A LOT of Dr. Seuss books. We made hats like Cat in the Hat and came up with rhyming words to write on our hats, we decorated muffins to make them look like Thing 1 and Thing 2 or like Cat in the Hat, we made a Horton Hears a Who craft and we wrote what the people would say that live on our speck inside our clover, we made Thing 1 and Thing 2 using our handprints, and we created our own silly rhyming book similar to the book There's a Wocket in my Pocket.
Thank you Mrs. Grodsky for making us the muffins to decorate!
Ms. Syetta-Math
We made 100 day sunglasses, we counted out 100 beads and made 100 day necklaces, we went on a scavenger hunt for 100 marbles (we found all of them!), we made a class gum ball machine using 100 pompoms and our own gum ball machine by using 100 dots of paint, we counted how many things we can do in 100 seconds, such as jumping jacks, toe touches, sit-ups, hopping on one foot, how many words we can write, and how many numbers we can write. Throughout the day we practiced counting, adding, and even dividing.
Ms. Syetta-Social Studies
We learned all about what a map is, how to find places on a map, and how to find were we live. We learned about the directions north, south, west, and east. We practiced walking by the following directions.
Ms. Syetta-Science
We learned about the physical properties of objects. We learned how to observe objects using our 5 senses and list the different properties. We discovered that we can describe the properties of object by stating its color, texture, size, shape, weight.

They now learned how to write Roman Numerals #X-XX so that they can read the Table of Contents in Charlotte’s Web which we are half way through. They have been given a new list of words that are stemmed from our readings. They have characterized Wilbur, and realize that this pig is some pig! The 2nd graders are discovering that they can make many text-to-self connections with Wilbur’s first encounters with freedom, and have been completing short creative responses to tell of their experiences. They have been preparing for next week’s Current Event. Our schedule will be changing come the week after next in order to align it with their computer schedule, so that I may teach the students how to research articles on their own. We will choose an article on Thursdays in the computer lab, and then follow the schedule of completing an article accordingly.

This week we worked on Point of View. We discussed the three types (first, second, and third person points of view) and acted them out. Ms. Regina narrated stories and we used improv to act them out. It was exciting and hilarious! We read paragraphs and found evidence to prove our point of which point of view the paragraph was written in. We also wrote stories of our daily routine in first person, then had to change it to third person. We really had to think about how some of our sentences would change!
