It's the end of the year! We are reviewing many of the confusing topics from throughout the year. This week was dedicated to 2D and 3D shapes. We drew them in our books, labeled them, and created a cube from a template to take home.
Ms Syetta ELA and Science
This week we learned our last reading comprehension skill of the year. We learned how to use our schema, illustrations, and words from the story to make inferences. We read a funny story from our sixth and last first grade reader about seven silly animals. We practiced writing silly creative stories about all different types of topics. We also practiced for the spelling bee and they all did amazing. I am so proud of every student in kindergarten! Congratulations to Madison and Asher!
We were so excited to see the caterpillars make a chrysalis. In Science we filled in our entomologist books by writing down our observations of our five caterpillars. We learned all about cocoons, as the caterpillars have moved into the next stage in their life cycle. We then had a blast creating our own cocoons out of papier-mâché.
Mrs Ivry Judaic
Kindergarteners continue to amaze me with their ability to transliterate from Hebrew with English letters. They practice for graduation and try to implement what we sing everyday into their daily routine.
In this week’s Parsha, we learned about the beautiful Mitzva of lighting the Menorah in the Bet Hamikdash. Only the Kohen Gadol could do it and he had to do it every day. We learned that the Menorah was made of gold in one block and that the flames always bended toward the middle light, the Shamash. The class got to go down to Morah’s car to see a model Menorah made out of clay.
FIRST GRADE
Mrs. Perles ELA
We enjoyed participating in our Spelling Bee. Everyone did a fantastic job spelling first and second grade spelling words. The children also sang 40 of our Word of the Day words. We have one more story to write for our end of the year book. It is really amazing. This week we will be finishing up all of our workbooks. Where did this year go? The children came in so timid and shy, and now, they can accomplish so much.
Mrs. Shats Math Enrichment
We practiced multiplication as repeated addition. Division - arranging a set of objects into groups. Adding and subtracting with a use of a number bond.
Ms Syetta Science
This week we began working in groups to create our habitat projects. Each group has a different habitat to create and they are drawing pictures or creating dioramas to show the characteristics of each habitat.
Mrs Ivry Judaic
First Graders past their first stripe test in Green level and are ready to read with the last vowels on the Green level. They also reviewed the names of the forefathers and mothers and they can now spell their names and pair them up in order.

SECOND GRADE
Ms. May ELA, SS and Geography
In ELA class this week the 2nd graders took their state test. They also took some time to prepare for their Spelling Bee! The competition seems fierce between the many excellent spellers we have, but Elliott Agres took the cake and won 1st place, followed by Amiel Lavy who won 2nd place! I’m very proud of them! We are half way through reading Charlotte’s Web and this book has proven to be the students’ favorite thus far. As usual we continue to answer reading comprehension questions to practice our reading skills such as: making connections, drawing conclusions, recalling information, interpreting vocabulary and figurative language. They took their next-to-last spelling test, and have been given their last set of words. I have also assessed the students’ reading level for the final time this year and I am proud to reveal that all of them have made progress.
In SS class we learned about our 6th historian, Abraham Lincoln and how he helped abolish slavery.
In Geography class we finished learning about our continent, North America and focused on South America. The students were intrigued to learn about the different countries that are in each of these countries.

Ms Syetta Science
This week we continued to compare and contrast vertebrates and invertebrates. We learned how to classify types of animals based on whether they do or do not have a backbone. Then, we further classified each group of vertebrate or invertebrate into smaller groups until we were left with one animal or insect. We reviewed the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates by playing Bingo.
