The first, second and third grade continued to practice mouse and coordination skills by doing fun activities while the fourth and fifth grade continued to do research for the SS fair.
Kindergarten:
Ms. Syetta-ELA
This week kindergarten read a story about a cat named Max. They learned how to use the illustrations to figure out unknown words and to answer comprehension questions. They practiced writing the story in sequential order using the words first, next, then, and last. They continued working on their nonfiction writing piece about their community worker. They practiced reading and writing words with the short vowel sounds by playing many different types games. They also played a board game to practice addition and reading short vowel words at the same time.
Ms. Syetta-Math
This week kindergarten continued to practice subtracting. They began creating another subtraction book. They subtracted using dominoes, pictures, and number lines. They practiced using the number line by playing a game. They threw two dice, figured out the two numbers, and then pretended to be dinosaurs while stomping backwards on a number line on the floor to answer the subtraction problem.
Ms. Syetta-Social Studies
This week kindergarten continued to work on their Social Studies projects. They completed their tri-folds and finished their final draft of their writing piece about their community worker.
Ms. Syetta-Science
This week kindergarten finished their experiment with the celery and food coloring. They dissected the celery to see what the stem of the plant does. They thought it was disgusting to learn that we eat all the parts of the plant! They got a chance to taste each part of the plant and then they sorted the foods to determine which foods were the seeds, roots, stems, leaves, and flowers.

Russian Class in Kindergarten:
First Grade:
Mrs. Ivry- Judaic Studies
First graders are getting so good at reading Hebrew! They passed their test last week and we started the Green Champ level this week. They are reading at a great speed and are getting more and more fluent! We are moving along nicely with the script writing, we learned up to Letter Nun Sofit. We also learned the Bracha Borei Peri Haetz and we are doing daily challenges on Brachot in our notebooks.

Mr. I.-Science
Took a retest on the water cycle and matter. This time the class did way better than the first time averaging a 94/100. We will continue the human body next week.
Mrs. Shats-Math
This week we continued to work on multiplication as repeated addition. Reviewed addition and subtraction strategies that we learned before. Completed word problems with multiplication , addition and subtraction and came up with our own.
Mrs. Perles-ELA and Social Studies
This week we read an amazing story called Babu which the class loved. We learned how wonderful it is to love a grandparent, and to have the grandparent love you back. Oh! It was so touching.
We also wrote a fun composition. We looked at a picture and wrote what we think happened to the two children in the picture. It was an easy but fun story. Next week it will be a little more detailed.
We've been working very hard practicing and getting ready for the Social Studies Fair. I think we're ready. However, please don't forget to send your son's or daughter's costume on Monday.
We've been continuing to work on our Homonym Book. The class can't wait to suggest the next homonym words. I love seeing the class enjoying and getting involved with their reading, writing, and vocabulary.
Second Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
The second grade continued the human body. This week they studied the lungs. They learned that there were 2 and even figured out that the right is larger than the left because of the heart with very minimal prompting. This was very impressive considering their ability to think critically at such a young age. We will be getting into the skin next.
Mrs. Shats-Math
We continued to work on adding and subtracting money. Counting up to make a one, five or ten dollars. Solved word problems.
Mrs. Spiegel-Judaic Studies
We had a wonderful week as we continue to perfect our reading
skills, constantly reviewing grammar rules in the Hebrew language. We
almost completed our unit on blessings. We studied the different
blessings and know the correct brochot to be said before eating
specific foods. Our unit was studied through songs, coloring, class
discussions and activity sheets. We enjoyed making our very own Aaron's
last week.In Parsha we learned about the different components of the
tabernacle, the Aaron being the most holy as the 10 commandments were
kept inside. We spent time this week learning all about the special
clothing worn by the kohen when he performed the service. We know that
the garment worn by the Kohen gadol had bells at the bottom so people
could hear the Kohen coming and repent. We also learned that we should
never just barge into a room rather knock on the door before entering
to let the people inside know you are coming.Shabbat Shalom
Third Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
Continued their study of the body. Besides learning anatomy and physiology, they also learned about Homeostasis. We discussed various examples of homeostasis and discussed the hierarchy of the human body (cells, tissues, etc).
Mrs. Shats-Math
This week we reviewed previous covered material.
Fourth Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
Learned the scientific definition of anatomy and physiology and watched a video on the human body. An impressive moment is when I asked "what do doctors pray that babies will do once theyre born?" One student finally answered "to cry" which was impressive enough. I then asked why and another student said "to make sure they baby can breathe on its own". I was taken back by their ability to work as a team to form a conclusion and think critically at the same time.
Mr. I.-Social Studies
We began practicing our SS fair presentations. It was awesome how the students managed to memorize their lines within the course of a day. We will continue to practice presentations in the early parts of next week.
Mrs. Uzhansky-Math
Completed the unit on decimals using all four operations. Test will be next Wednesday after a few days of extensive review.
Fifth Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
Continued to study the skeletal system. We studied Joints, types of joints, bones in the hands and feet and finally got into skeletal pathologies in the latter part of the week. We will continue to study the various pathologies next week.
Mr. I.-Social Studies
Began practicing their debates. Some speeches and answers are really impressive. Day by Day, the fifth grade is getting better and better at projecting themselves and actually portraying their candidates.
Mrs. Uzhansky-Math
Completed the unit on decimals using all four operations. Looking forward to a few days of cumulative review next week.
