This week we were so excited that we were able to begin reading our second first grade reader. We are becoming excellent readers! Our fluency has greatly improved and we were able to read our new story quickly and accurately. We continued to practice reading and writing consonant blends and we practiced rhyming by playing games. We also have been learning to write our opinions, such as our favorite character or animal and writing at least two reasons why we like that character or animal.
This week in Science we reviewed what happens when you put different solids into a liquid. We learned that all liquids take the shape of a container but solids do not change shape when poured. We learned about how objects sink or float and what buoyancy means. We also practiced identifying solids and liquids

As the story of Purim unfolds in front of the students, queen Esther is welcomed with cheers and Haman is booed! We are waiting eagerly to hear how the Jewish people will get out of Haman' s threat.
In parsha we learned that Hashes wanted everyone to participate in the construction of the tabernacle, Hashem' s dwelling place, in any way possible. Some gave their gold and silver, some gave their time and knowledge, others gave their crafts. The results were stunning. And it's in a place crafted with unity that Hashem will reside. In every Jewish community, the holy sites such as the synagogues and Jewish schools should also be a labor of love and unity from every single Jew.
We welcomed the new month of Adar in a special way, baking hamantashen. Thank you Morah Dina for the dough and delicious fillings.
Shabbat shalom.

This week we wrote an interesting descriptive composition about My Pet, either real or imaginative. We told the name, color, texture, and size of our pet. They were wonderful touching stories.
In our Reader we read two versions of the famous fairy tale Cinderella, the English and Chinese version. In the English version, the girl's name was Tattercoat, who lived with her mean grandfather. The Chinese girl was Yeh-Shen, who taught us that good is rewarded and evil is always punished.
Finally in Social Studies we continued learning about the colonial villages. We read about the silversmith, whitesmith, and schoolhouse. It was fascinating to learn how children all studied in a one room school with one schoolmaster.

In ELA, This week, I’m happy to announce that every student received a 90% or higher on their 20- word Spelling list L Since then, the 2nd graders have been focused on learning their new Spelling/Vocabulary word list. I have decided to differentiate the word list for our struggling spellers so that they can focus on re-familiarizing the spelling of commonly used words, such as site words to ensure that their writing and reading can be strengthened. The students are completing their book reports, and learning that it is essential to reflect on their writing goals in order to improve on their writing.
In SS, This week we finished our lesson on John Smith.
