This week at SIHA!
Kindergarten:
Mrs. Ivry-Judaic Studies
How exciting! In honor of Rosh Chodesh (New month) Adar 1, we introduced the Purim Puppet show and we love it! It’s fun and interesting. We met Letzan the clown and we danced with him on the famous Mishenichnass Adar song. Letzan promised to tell us the story of Purim! We can’t wait!
Kindergarteners learned 3 letters this week, The Peh, Feh and Feh Sofit. Peh is for Purim and Pessach as well as Platon! Feh is only found in middle of words like Shofar. Kindergarteners are really eager to learn and are progressing very nicely in their reading and writing skills. For Brachot we learned Hagafen, the blessing recited on wine or grape juice.

This week kindergarten read a nonfiction story about different animals in a park. They learned how to find the main idea of a nonfiction story. They practiced writing non-fiction stories about animals, sports, or their community worker. They also practiced reading and writing words with the short vowel sounds by playing different games.
Ms. Syetta-Math
This week kindergarten practiced subtracting. They created a subtraction book that shows all of the different strategies you can use to subtract. They practiced using number lines, number bonds, pictures, and their fingers to subtract. They also played a tossing game by throwing balls into buckets and subtracting their scores. There are some great athletes in the class!
Ms. Syetta-Social Studies
This week kindergarten continued to work on their Social Studies projects. They completed their tri-folds and began their writing piece about their community worker.
Ms. Syetta-Science

We are working on multiplication. Creating multiplication stories with given equations. Drawing groups and how many objects in each group. Counting on by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10.
Mr. I.-Science
The first grade began learning about the human body. To get started, I had them trace Alyssa on a large piece of paper and label all her body parts (the big, important ones). They also will be taking a retake of their matter unit exam next Tuesday in a second attempt to boost their grades. The second grade learned about the heart and the importance of blood in the body. The lungs will be covered next week.
Mr. I.-Computers
We began to work on our mouse and coordinatuion skills by doing something our students love, Online Coloring Pages! They think that they're coloring but in reality they are practicing using a mouse as well as precision and coordination.
Second Grade:
Mrs. Shats-Math
Started a unit on money. Kids are counting on to make a dollar and ten dollars. Figuring out different ways to make the same amount. We are playing store where kids pretend they are buying things from our class store to show how they would pay for the item and what change they need to receive.

The 2nd graders continue to practice their SS Fair Song and their play, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
Ms. May-Social Studies
This week in SS the students presented their Current Event articles, and they were very interested in finding out that Phil, the Groundhog did not see his shadow, and although today is the coldest day thus far, Spring is around the corner. Third Grade:
Mrs. Shats-Math
This week we finished unit on length and reviewed for the test.
Mr. I.-Science
The third grade began their unit of the human body and gained 2 key vocabulary words, Anatomy and physiology. We learned that "function follows form". We were created a certain way to proceed the functions we need to perform to survive. Our unit on the human body will consist of an overview on the systems of the body.
Mr. I.-Computers
We began to work on our mouse and coordinatuion skills by doing something our students love, Online Coloring Pages! They think that theyre coloring but in reality they are practicing using a mouse as well as precision and coordination.
Fourth Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
They took a test on matter and the class average was a 95 which is fantastic. They will begin their unit on the human body transitioning into an overview of the various body systems.
Mr. I.-Social Studies
The fourth grade concluded with their tri-fold boards and their final drafts for the SS fair. Everything seems to be coming along well with very minimal delay.
Mr. I.-Computers
We used our PCs to assist in the completion of SS fair boards, papers and presentations. Students worked on anything they needed to both individually and in groups.
Ms. May-ELA
In 4th grade, the students tackled the mystery of where to insert a comma, and discovered many new transitional words, and phrases that can be used to make their writing more vivid, and less redundant. The students had a writing contest where they had to write a letter to a robot, explaining the steps needed to get ready for school in the morning without including the overly used transitional words, such as "next" & "then". Daniel Bobrysh and Pazi Oz came in 1st and 2nd with their creative antics. They also learned a new set of Spell/Voc words that were pulled from their 3rd trade book, On My Honor which they finished this week. They spoke of how important it is to keep a promise, and the consequences they can incur as a result of being unable to keep your honor, which is the theme of this heartfelt book. They shared stories of times that they felt scared to tell the truth and how after reflecting the truth will always set you free.
Mrs. Uzhansky-Math
Fourth grade mastered addition and subtraction with decimals. We began multiplication with decimals.
Fifth Grade:
Mr. I.-Science
We began the skeletal system this week. I have a feeling that this may very well be their favorite system. We studied the functions on bones as well as whats inside. We are currently studying bone structures in different parts of the body.
Mr. I.-Social Studies
They took an exam on Mesopotamia and the class average was an 85. We also continued to complete our final drafts and our trifold presentations for the SS fair. We even began to practice debate answers for SS presentations. We seem to be making great strides toward completion.
Mr. I.-Computers
